What we replace
Two kinds of roof glass
A classic sunroof is one panel that tilts or slides back over the roof. A panoramic roof is bigger: often two panels, one that opens and one fixed behind it, or a single sheet of glass that runs most of the length of the cabin, the way many electric cars are built. We replace the glass in both.
What we do not do is mechanical work. If the panel is whole but the roof will not close, tilts unevenly or makes a grinding noise, the motor, cables or tracks have failed, and a sunroof mechanic is the right call. Tell us what you see when you ask for a quote and we will say which one it is before anyone drives out.
Covered by this service
- Glass panels for tilt and slide sunroofs
- Front and rear panels of two-panel panoramic roofs
- Single-piece fixed glass roofs
- The seal around the panel, renewed with the new glass
Phoenix sun
A glass roof in a Phoenix summer
Roof glass faces straight up, so it takes the strongest sun of any glass on the car, and a car parked in an open lot in July heats every surface through the afternoon. That is one reason owners here notice cracks that start at the edge of a roof panel, where the glass meets the frame.
When a tempered roof panel lets go, it breaks into small cubes, and many of them land inside the car. Before we arrive, leave the pieces where they are if you can. The technician vacuums the headliner channel, the seats and the floor as part of the job, because loose glass in the tracks is what damages the new panel.
Covering the hole matters more here than in most places. Between June 15 and September 30 a monsoon storm can drop heavy rain on one part of the Valley and leave the next neighbourhood dry. Painter's tape and a heavy plastic sheet, taped to the roof paint and not to the trim, will keep water off the headliner until the install.
Insurance
Does Arizona glass coverage include a sunroof?
Arizona's full glass law lets you choose coverage without a deductible for damaged "safety equipment", and it defines that as the glass in the windshield, doors and windows, plus the lights. A sunroof is not on that list. Our Arizona insurance page quotes the statute itself.
So the answer comes from your own policy, not the statute. Some policies treat roof glass like any other glass, and others apply the normal comprehensive deductible to it. Send us the insurer's name and the policy number and we read the glass wording with you before anything is booked. If you file, we help you file. The Arizona insurance page has the full statute and how a claim runs.
Install day
Getting a roof panel done at your place
Most roof panels are replaced in one visit. A few things make the day go well in Phoenix.
- Shade or a garage. The technician lifts the panel off the roof, so a carport with enough height to stand on a step works, and a garage with the door open works best.
- Room around the car: about an arm's length on both sides so two people can set a large panoramic panel.
- No storm in the forecast. We do not install in rain or blowing dust, and we call to move the time if monsoon weather is headed your way.
- The VIN. Roof glass differs by trim, tint and coating, and the VIN tells us which panel the car left the factory with. Text a photo of it to (877) 350-5962.
- An adult at the car with the keys, to approve the work.
The technician tells you when the car is ready to drive and whether to wait before a car wash.

Sunroof questions from Phoenix drivers
Not sure if it is the glass or the motor? Text a photo to (877) 350-5962 or call our Phoenix line, (602) 782-5144.
Can a cracked sunroof panel wait?
A crack in a roof panel can spread with heat and with the body flexing over bumps, and a tempered panel can let go all at once. If it is cracked, keep the shade closed, avoid the car wash, and get a quote before the next storm.
Do you replace a glass roof on an electric car?
Yes, we replace the fixed glass roofs on many electric cars and SUVs. Send the VIN so we can confirm the exact panel, because roofs on the same model can differ by year and trim.
Is the new roof glass the same as the original?
We fit OEM-quality glass made to the vehicle maker's specifications for size, curve, tint and fit, matched to your car by VIN.
What does the warranty cover?
Every install carries our lifetime workmanship warranty for as long as you own the vehicle. It covers our workmanship, including leaks from the seal we set, and defects in the glass we install. New damage, like hail or a branch, is not covered. Full terms are on bangautoglass.com/warranty.
