The place

A part of Phoenix with few ways in

Ahwatukee Foothills is one of Phoenix's urban villages, but it does not touch the rest of the city by road the way most villages do. The South Mountains close it off to the north, Interstate 10 runs down its east side, and the Gila River Indian Community and the Loop 202 wrap the west and south. A 2006 book on metropolitan Phoenix and a 2009 Dateline NBC segment both called it "the world's largest cul-de-sac", because for decades the only ways in were 48th Street at the northeast corner and a handful of crossings over I-10.

The village grew from one land purchase. The Presley Development Company bought 2,080 acres in 1970, Maricopa County approved the plans in November 1971, and the first model homes opened near 50th Street and Elliot Road in 1973. Phoenix annexed the area in stages between 1980 and 1987. Arizona's health department estimated the population at 83,464 in 2016.

For a windshield visit, that history explains the streets. Large parts of Ahwatukee were built as planned neighbourhoods, The Foothills and Club West among them, on land that was once a vehicle proving ground. Expect curving collector roads, cul-de-sacs, community entrances and HOA rules, rather than the street grid of central Phoenix.

ZIP codes

Ahwatukee's three ZIP codes

Three ZIP codes cover Ahwatukee: 85044, 85045 and 85048. All three are Phoenix ZIP codes in the Census Bureau's 2020 ZIP code areas, so an address in any of them is inside our Phoenix service area.

ZIP code areas follow mail routes rather than village lines, and a few addresses near the edges can surprise you. So book with the street address and the closest main road, Elliot or Warner Road for example, as well as the ZIP. With so few ways in, the route the technician picks matters more here than almost anywhere else in Phoenix.

Getting there

The roads that carry Ahwatukee traffic

  1. Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway

Opened December 21, 2019, along the old Pecos Road alignment on the south edge of the village. Its Ahwatukee exits are 40th Street (56), 32nd Street (57), 24th Street (58), Desert Foothills Parkway (60) and 17th Avenue (62), and it meets I-10 at exits 55A and 55B.

  2. Interstate 10

The east edge of the village. Before the 202 opened, the crossings over I-10 were the main link between Ahwatukee and the rest of the Valley.

  3. 48th Street

The original way in at the northeast corner, once called Hunter Drive.

  4. Elliot and Warner Roads

East-west roads through the village. The first model homes opened in 1973 near 50th Street and Elliot Road.

Every freeway throws the odd stone. If one hits your windshield on the 202 or I-10, note the exit and the time, take a dated photo, and send it to us by text.

Where we work

Installs on Ahwatukee streets

Most Ahwatukee jobs happen in a driveway or a garage. A few local habits make the visit smoother.

  • Behind a guard gate or a call box? Put the code, or the name the box lists you under, in the booking notes, and let the gate know a vendor is coming if your community asks residents to.
  • Association rules here often cover where trade vehicles may stop. Doing the job on your own driveway or in the garage usually sidesteps the question.
  • For shade, a garage with its door up is best; failing that, whichever side of the house is out of the sun at the booked time.
  • Booking at work instead? A business lot is fine if its manager agrees to a vendor working there.
  • School and park lots are fine as a place to meet only with the owner's permission. We would rather come to your home or work.

We do not install in rain or blowing dust. If a monsoon storm is coming over the mountain, we call to move the time.

Ahwatukee questions

Ask us on our Phoenix line, (602) 782-5144, or by text at (877) 350-5962.

Is Ahwatukee part of Phoenix?

Yes. Ahwatukee Foothills is one of Phoenix's urban villages, annexed in stages between 1980 and 1987, even though it sits on the far side of South Mountain from downtown. We serve it as part of Phoenix.

Can you get into my gated Ahwatukee community?

In most cases. We need whatever a guest needs: the code, the call-box listing or your name on the guard's list. Once inside, a driveway or an open garage gives the technician the most room.

Will my lane-keep camera work after the new windshield?

It has to be recalibrated, and that comes with the replacement when your car needs it. Where the procedure can be done at the house, it happens during the same visit; if your model needs something else, you know before the appointment is made.

Is the far side of the mountain too far for a same-day visit?

Not usually. Same-day appointments are available in most areas, depending on the glass your car takes and the day's route. Name Elliot or Warner Road, or whichever main road is closest, in the booking so the technician picks the right way in past South Mountain. Installs run 8am to 6pm, Monday to Saturday.
