Arizona law does not set your glass deductible. It makes insurers offer full glass coverage as an option you choose. Here is what that means for your claim, quoted from the statutes.

The statutes

Arizona glass law, in its own words

We read each statute on azleg.gov on October 16, 2026. Short quotes are the law's own words; everything else is our plain summary. Your policy wording still decides your claim.

Arizona statutes that touch a windshield claim
StatuteWhat it saysWhat it means for you
A.R.S. § 20-264Insurers that write comprehensive coverage on private passenger vehicles must provide, “at the option of the insured,” complete coverage for damaged safety equipment “without regard to any deductible.” Safety equipment includes “the glass used in the windshield, doors and windows.”Full glass coverage is an option you choose on your policy. If you chose it, a windshield or door glass claim is often $0 out of pocket. If you did not, your comprehensive deductible applies.
A.R.S. § 20-469“Unless otherwise prescribed by contract,” a person in Arizona has the right to choose any glass repair facility. An insurer that recommends a shop must tell you about that right at the same time. You can ask for Bang AutoGlass unless your policy contract says otherwise. A recommendation from your insurer is not a requirement.
A.R.S. § 20-469.01A third party administrator that recommends a glass shop, or gives you information about one, must tell you about your § 20-469 right to choose at the same time. Its glass inspectors and independent adjusters may not recommend a particular shop. Many glass claims are answered by a claims company working for your insurer, not the insurer itself. The same right to choose applies when you talk to them.
A.R.S. § 20-463.02A glass shop must tell you whether a driver-assist camera needs recalibrating, give you an itemized description of the planned work, and recalibrate to meet or exceed the maker's specifications. If recalibration fails or is not done, the shop must tell you and the insurer. A shop may not say your insurer will cover the whole cost unless your policy does. Before your Phoenix install you hear whether your camera needs calibrating and what the work includes. It is also why we check your policy before quoting any out-of-pocket amount.
A.R.S. § 28-957.01Passenger vehicles must have an “adequate windshield.”The law does not set a crack length. Damage in the driver's view is the practical test.
A.R.S. § 28-959.01No material on the windshield or side windows may obstruct or reduce the driver's clear view.Tint and stickers have their own limits; a crack across your view is a safety problem whatever the size.

Sunroofs are not named in § 20-264. Whether a sunroof claim is paid depends on your own policy wording.

The claim

How a Phoenix glass claim goes with us

  1. We check the policy first

Tell us your insurance company and policy details. We confirm whether you carry full glass coverage, and what you would owe, before anything is booked.

  2. We help you file your claim

You open the claim with your insurer, usually by phone or app, with us on hand to give the glass details and our information. We never take over your claim.

  3. We book the install

At home, at work or at your apartment lot, Monday to Saturday, 8am to 6pm.

  4. We bill your insurer directly

After covered work, the bill goes to the insurer. If a deductible applies, you pay it to us; we never cover, waive or refund it.

Your policy

Reading your declarations page before you call

The declarations page is the summary sheet at the front of your auto policy, and most insurer apps show it too. Five lines on it answer most Phoenix glass questions.

  • Comprehensive coverage: full glass coverage in Arizona is added to comprehensive, so look for this line first.
  • The glass line: it may say full glass or safety glass, or list a separate glass deductible. Wording differs between insurers.
  • Your comprehensive deductible: if there is no separate glass line, this is the amount that usually applies to a windshield.
  • The vehicle list: coverage can differ from one car to the next on the same policy, so check the car that is cracked.
  • The policy number and the claims phone number: have both ready when you open the claim.

Still unsure? Read the lines to us on our Phoenix line, (602) 782-5144, and we go through them with you before anything is booked.

Insurance companies

Which insurers we work with

We accept all insurance companies, and the steps above are the same for every one of them. GEICO, Progressive, State Farm, Allstate, USAA, Farmers or a smaller carrier: we help you file with whichever one covers your car. Being able to name your insurer does not mean any partnership: no insurance company endorses or recommends us, and we do not represent any of them.

If your insurer suggests a different glass shop, § 20-469 means you can still choose us, unless your policy contract says otherwise.

Arizona coverage questions

Have your policy handy and call our Phoenix line, (602) 782-5144. The (877) line, (877) 994-5277, is answered 24/7.

Does Arizona law pay for my windshield?

No. Arizona law makes insurers offer full glass coverage as an option on comprehensive policies (A.R.S. § 20-264). Drivers who chose that option often pay $0 out of pocket for a windshield. Drivers who did not have their comprehensive deductible apply. We check which one you have before booking.

How do I know if I have full glass coverage?

It is listed on your policy declarations page, often as full glass, zero-deductible glass or safety glass coverage. If you cannot find it, we can check with you and your insurer before you book.

Will a glass claim raise my insurance rates?

Ask your insurer how a windshield claim may affect your policy or rates. We cannot predict or decide that, and no statute we cite on this page answers it.

Can my insurance company make me use their glass shop?

Under A.R.S. § 20-469 you have the right to choose any glass repair facility, unless your policy contract says otherwise. An insurer that recommends a shop must tell you about that right.

My policy shows a comprehensive deductible and a separate glass deductible. What does that mean?

It usually means your policy carries two amounts. The comprehensive one applies to most comprehensive claims, such as theft or hail on the body of the car. The separate glass amount applies to covered glass. If that glass amount is zero, a windshield is often $0 out of pocket. Policy wording differs, so we read your declarations page with you before booking.

A claims company called me about my glass, not my insurer. Is that normal?

Yes. Many insurers hand glass claims to a claims company. Under A.R.S. § 20-469.01, if that company recommends a shop it must also tell you that you can choose any glass shop, unless your policy contract says otherwise.

Is it illegal to drive in Phoenix with a cracked windshield?

Arizona requires an adequate windshield (A.R.S. § 28-957.01) and a clear view through it (A.R.S. § 28-959.01). The law sets no crack size. If the damage is in your line of sight or spreading, replace it.
